“We had the Valentine's Day event at Brightview where we handed out roses and boxes of chocolate, drank wine, shared stories, and provided manicures,” says Homecare Consultant Tiara Brandon. “Basically, we set up three tables with nail polish and supplies we needed for each resident to come up and get their nails done. We had someone handing out refreshments and we listened to music and talked about plans for Valentine's Day. The residents were very funny telling jokes and sharing stories.”
"Doing the same thing over and over can get boring, and I want residents to truly enjoy themselves"
This kind of celebration exemplifies how senior living Valentine’s Day events can go beyond traditional festivities. Brandon shares that the residents even asked if they could host more programs like this, highlighting the importance of creating events that are engaging, exciting, and full of surprises.

“Doing the same thing over and over can get boring, and I want residents to truly enjoy themselves,” she explains. That’s why she focuses on creative experiences, from spa days to interactive games, designed to bring joy and connection to every event.

Brandon's goal is simple: make each interaction meaningful. She strives to make each event or activity memorable. “I love seeing them open up, share stories, and just have a great time,” she says. “That’s what makes this work so rewarding.”

She adds that she sometimes overhears the residents expressing how much fun they had, which reinforces the impact of these events.
This sense of joy and appreciation, she notes, wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated team at Brightview Tarrytown. “The staff here is incredibly special because they are passionate about their residents' happiness and well-being,” she says.

Working closely with the community’s directors, Brandon helped bring the Galentine’s Day celebration to life, and it’s clear the residents felt the love—many even boast about the exceptional care they receive.
As senior living Valentine’s Day celebrations continue to evolve, one thing remains clear—homes can always make events like these an opportunity to strengthen friendships, and spark joy.
